"Inquiry"

Joseph Duncan is asked a lot of questions by a lot of people, and though he has never responded to questions from the professional media (because he feels their motives are counter to truth and understanding - i.e. it's simply not profitable to make people think for themselves by giving them unfiltered and unbiased information, so the media "packages" their stories the same way other companies package their products so their consumers need to think as little as possible about what they are buying). Duncan does feel it is crucial for him to answer legitimate questions so he himself does not fall into the trap of only telling people what he thinks they should know.

So the "Inquiry"-section is provided as a means of addressing questions from various sources, answering them as honestly and concisely as possible, as well as directing the content of other sections of this blog. We are open to all questions and suggestions, which can be either posted as comments, or mailed directly to Joseph Duncan (see "Contacting Joseph Duncan" below). Questions are selected according to sincerity and relevance to the theme of this blog (i.e. exposing the inner truth of our experiences together). Duncan chooses which questions to answer here himself, and that choice is often hampered by resource constraints (mostly time and effort), though he tells us that he often picks the questions he doesn't want to answer because he feels those are typically the most important.

Contacting Joseph Duncan

Joseph Duncan, the primary author of this blog, is currently confined on Federal death row at the US Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. Because of the national (and international) media coverage of his crimes he receives a lot of mail from people he doesn't know which is mostly supportive. He says he reads all of his mail, but cannot always respond.

Welcome To The Fifth Nail

The Fifth Nail Exposed represents the ongoing efforts of Joseph E. Duncan III, a convicted child killer with three death sentences, and his friends, who neither judge nor condemn murder by an individual or by a social system, to let the world see behind the lies and deceptions that compelled Duncan to act out so violently against the perceived source of his lifelong pain and suffering. It is not an attempt to solicit sympathy, nor does it promote some ideology or philosophy that might otherwise be represented somewhere else better. It does open up the thoughts, feelings, memories, dreams and other experiences of one particularly "sick" man, not so others will take pity or even understand him, but so we all might better understand ourselves and our relationship to the world we live in with all the so called "good" and "evil" in it.

This blog is not for the faint of heart, nor is it suitable for those who prefer to unquestionably adopt the views and prejudices of a group that they identify with rather than seeing and thinking for themselves. We challenge the reader to question their very identity, and to cull out the source of your views and opinions until you see for yourself the deception behind all our fear, hate and ignorance. The Fifth Nail aims at the deceitful heart of evil, not as some supernatural monster put here to torment the world into fearing God, but as a very real and ultranatural phenomenon that has disguised itself as something we cannot live without.

Our belief is that the Truth can and does speak for itself to anyone with the courage to listen. So we have no truth to tell you, and no message to convey. The only theme here is the honest portrayal of one human being's experience, and our only hope is that others might see and understand the Fifth Nail for themselves.

We have decided to open the Fifthnail Exposed blogs to comments. We realize of course that by doing so we will entice a lot of extremely negative and hateful people to express their views here. But, the Fifthnail is not about being judgemental. So, even though we don't like the smell of baby-pooh anymore than anyone else, we recognize that it is, after all, a necessary part of human development. And, this blog, if nothing else, is all about reconciling the ugliest aspects of our human nature, nor denying it.

So, all comments, the good, the bad and the ugly, are welcome here. We only hope that those with something constructive to contribute will not be discouraged by the dubious aroma of those with less control over their intellectual bowels.
